Prepare Fatayer Dough and set aside to rise. While dough is rising, mix all filling ingredients in a medium bowl. Set aside until dough is ready. Then proceed with directions for shaping and baking pies.
Variation: Use filling ingredients above, substituting 1/2 cup sesame tahini paste or labany (yogurt cheese) for the tomato and pomegranate syrup.
- 1 recipe Fatayer Dough
- 1 lb: Pound Lean Ground Beef or Lamb
- 1/2 c chopped Parsley
- 1/2 c finely diced Onion
- 1/4 c Pine Nuts or Slivered Almonds, toasted
- 1/4 c plain bread crumbs
- 1 Medium Tomato, diced
- 1 tbsp Pomegranate syrup*
- 1 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
- 2 1/2 tsp Middle Eastern Blend
