These sweet little donut balls are popular in Greece and the Middle East, where they are called AWAMEE. Whatever you call them, they are a favorite with kids and grownups alike. In a medium bowl, beat the eggs and vanilla lightly. Add the yogurt and water and beat until smooth. Add the flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Beat just until smooth. Pour oil in a medium saucepan to a depth of at least 3 inches. Heat the oil to 360 degrees. Drop teaspoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, using a rubber spatula to push batter off spoon. Fry 3 to 5 minutes until golden brown on all sides, turning puffs with a slotted spoon. Drain on paper towels. Dip the puffs into prepared syrup and set on a rack to drain. If desired, some of the Loukoumades can be rolled in a mixture of 1/4 cup sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon.
